Citizen Path for Illegal Immigrants
Citizen Path for Illegal Immigrants
Strengthening our nation's borders to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants - building walls, increasing the number of border agents, or whatever - is one thing. But what do we do about the estimated 12 million illegals here now? Proposals range from just packing them all home to giving them immediate amnesty. Between those two extremes are ideas of creating "paths" or ways for illegals to eventually gain citizenship, which includes paying penalties, learning English and various wait periods. In all this lies the question of what to do with the children of illegal immigrants who were born in America. Under the law, those children are Americans, with the same rights as any other U.S. citizen.
